Iced Matcha Bumble Recipe: Ceremonial Matcha with Fresh Orange Juice
Matcha Bumble is a layered iced drink — a matcha shot poured slowly over ice and fresh orange juice, built to stay in two distinct colours until the first stir.
Iced Matcha Bumble Recipe
Matcha Shot
- Soak the bamboo whisk in warm water to soften the prongs.
- Sift 3 g of matcha into the bowl.
- Add 15 ml of warm water (70°C) and whisk into a smooth paste.
- Pour in the remaining water (35 ml).
- Whisk in a W-motion until a fine foam forms.
- Drink immediately, while freshly whisked.
How to Make Matcha Bumble
For 1 serving, you'll need about 200 ml of freshly squeezed orange juice - roughly 2-3 oranges.
- Prepare a matcha shot with 3 g of matcha.
- Fill a glass with ice.
- Add orange juice up to the ice line.
- Pour the matcha shot slowly on top.
We don't recommend adding syrup to this recipe. Made with ripe, freshly squeezed oranges, the juice carries its own natural sweetness — syrup would only compete with it.

Tips for the Perfect Layered Pour
The layers hold because of density, not technique alone — orange juice is heavier than the whisked matcha, so a slow pour over the back of a spoon, or straight down the side of the glass, keeps the shot sitting on top instead of dropping through.
Use juice straight from the fruit. Bottled or concentrated juice is thinner and less consistent — it won't hold the line the same way, and the flavour won't carry the drink on its own.
The matcha shot should be freshly whisked and still warm when poured.
Stir before drinking.
