Iced Hojicha Pumpkin Latte Recipe
What is hojicha powder?
Hojicha powder is roasted green tea, stone-ground into a fine powder. The leaves are roasted at high temperature, which gives the tea an amber colour and a nutty, roasted taste with a smooth, earthy finish. Unlike matcha, it's not grassy.
Is hojicha low in caffeine?
Yes. Hojicha is naturally low in caffeine: 7-8 mg per cup (2 g of powder). It is a mild alternative to coffee or matcha and suits any time of day.
How to use hojicha powder
We always start with a hojicha shot. Whisk 2-4 g of hojicha powder with 50-60 ml of water at 80°C in a zigzag (W) motion until lightly foamy.
From the shot you can make any drink. For a pure hojicha, add more water and sweeten it with honey, a natural sweetener or a syrup if you like. For a hojicha latte, add milk or plant-based milk, like in this recipe.
Iced hojicha pumpkin latte recipe
Pumpkin jam and roasted hojicha make a great pair. The hojicha is mellow and smooth, without a grassy edge, so sweet pumpkin and cinnamon sit well next to it.
It is a simple recipe: a hojicha shot, coconut milk and whipped cream with jam.
