Hojicha powder is roasted Japanese green tea, finely ground into powder. Warm, nutty, and naturally low in caffeine, it prepares the same way matcha does — sifted, then whisked into a fine foam.

How to Prepare Hojicha

Classic Hojicha Shot

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp Hojicha Powder (2 g)
  • 60 ml hot water (80°C)

Utensils:

  • Chasen (bamboo whisk)
  • Chawan (bowl)

Preparation:

  1. Soak the bamboo whisk in warm water to soften the prongs.
  2. Sift 2 g of hojicha powder into the bowl.
  3. Add 20 ml of warm water (80°C) and whisk into a smooth paste.
  4. Pour in the remaining water (40 ml).
  5. Whisk in a W-motion until a fine foam forms.
  6. Drink immediately, while freshly whisked.

 

HOJICHA ICE LATTE 

  1. Prepare a hojicha shot.
  2. Fill glass with 30 ml syrup - optional.
  3. Top with ice.
  4. Add milk up to the ice line.
  5. Pour hojicha shot slowly on top.
