Matcha bowl (chawan) is an essential piece for authentic matcha preparation. Designed with the perfect depth and curve, it allows the bamboo whisk (chasen) to move freely, creating a smooth, frothy tea without spills.

Our bowl is hand-blown from borosilicate glass, with a precision spout, presented in a signature gift box - designed for the mindful preparation and sharing of matcha.

Why it’s essential:

  • Space for proper whisking → fine, with foam;
  • Easy control of water-to-powder ratio;
  • Minimizes splashing and clumping when whisking;
  • Completes the authentic matcha ritual.

How to use:

  • Fill the chawan with hot water and place the whisk inside for a few minutes to soften it. Discard the water.
  • Sift about 2 g of matcha powder into the bowl.
  • Add warm water (70 °C) - hot water spoils the delicate powder and makes it bitter.
  • Slowly add water to the powder, whisking in a zig-zag (M/W) motion until it forms a “matcha porridge” texture, then slowly add more water, whisk again until foam appears.
  • Suitable to be brewed as matcha latte with plant-based milk or plain with just water.
  • Matcha should be consumed immediately after brewing.

Note: The chawan can also be used for preparing other Japanese powdered teas such as hojicha, genmaicha, or wakoucha.

  • Hand wash only;
  • Avoid abrasive sponges;
  • Dry thoroughly before storing.
